Obsidian just released The Outer Worlds, their newest hit RPG, just a few short weeks ago. Now, the studio is already working on something new, and its release is just around the corner. Yesterday at the Xbox event X019, the studio unveiled Grounded; their first official game under the banner of a Microsoft first party studio. Grounded is a co-op survival game that the studio is planning to release next Spring on Xbox and PC.

In Grounded, a group of friends are shrunk down to the size of ants and must navigate through a perilous journey across their backyard. The game can be played solo or players can team up with up to three friends to survive together. Players will craft bases, weapons, and armor to survive the harsh wilderness a suburban backyard brings.
Feargus Urquhart, CEO at Obsidian Entertainment, stated “We pride ourselves as being a creative studio and can’t wait to bring our expertise to the survival genre.” Game Director Adam Brennecke added, “It’s a perfect setting to flex our creative muscles. We want to create a versatile sandbox where players can create their own memorable experiences.”
Since being purchased by Microsoft late last year, the studio has already released The Outer Worlds to rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Though, the game was in development prior to the acquisition and published by Private Division on all consoles instead. Recently, it came out that another series Obsidian is known for, Pillars of Eternity, needs to be completely reworked before the studio would make another entry in the series.
Grounded is set to release for Xbox One via Xbox Game Preview and Xbox Game Pass, and for PC via Xbox Game Pass for PC, the Microsoft Store, and Steam at some point during Spring 2020.
