Exciting news has arrived for fans of the popular survival game series Red Dead Redemption. During Computex’s 2021 event, the tech company Nvidia announced over one hundred new games that will be compatible with their DLSS technology. Most notable among those games were the PC versions of Red Dead Redemption, which will include Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.
DLSS, or deep learning super sampling, is a piece of technology that majorly enhances the graphics quality of video games. By using artificial intelligence to enhance the visuals of a game, the DLSS enables games to run smoother and cleaner graphics without sacrificing resolution or hardware power. With the DLSS focusing on graphics it frees up space for the device to focus on framerate, which in turn improves the overall game quality.
With a game like Red Dead Redemption 2, where visuals play a large role in the story, content like a DLSS will help in enhancing the experience for players. When Red Dead Redemption 2 was first released for the PC in 2019, a whole year after the game’s original console release, it came with many updates and additions, most notably uncapped framerates. Of course, with improved content and graphics comes the reality of having a game that’s difficult to run on devices, especially those not designed to run a heavy game. This is why the DLSS will be important to many Red Dead Redemption 2 fans, as it will enable them to run the game at its best without having to completely upgrade their devices.
It is important to note that the DLSS can only be run on Nvidia RTX GPUS. However, if you’re still struggling to get your hands on one of those, fear not! Later this month AMD will release their FidelityFX Super Resolution, a competing open-source device that should run DLSS all the same. So if you want to get in on the new graphics capabilities of the game, head on out and get yourself one of these devices!
A recent announcement by Rockstar Games confirmed that the DLSS capabilities will be released for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online alongside an update on July 13th. The update will be available to all Microsoft Windows users with the appropriate software on their computer.
