Nitrome has confirmed that Twin Shot Deluxe, ground-up remaster of their 2009 browser game, will launch on April 30, 2026, simultaneously across Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. The announcement was made today via a release date trailer posted to Nitrome’s official YouTube channel. Twin Shot Deluxe is the first title in Nitrome Classics, a new series from Nitrome Limited dedicated to bringing the studio’s catalog of browser and mobile games to modern platforms. Nitrome has described the series as titles “lovingly ported from the ground up,” with each release receiving upgrades across the board, including improvements to frame rates, aspect ratios, and audio quality. Silly Sausage and Skywire are confirmed to follow at later dates.
The original Twin Shot is a browser-based arcade shooter revolving around a cast of winged cat warriors who use bows and arrows as their sole weapons against a relentless assault of enemies. The remaster expands significantly on what the 2009 version offered. Running at 60 fps and a 16:9 ratio, up from the original’s 20 fps, Nitrome says the wider screen alone accounts for 78 percent more playfield than before. The visual overhaul affects every sprite, animation, character, background, and menu, all of which have been rebuilt in pixel art, accompanied by a new intro animatic and ending illustrations.
Twin Shot Deluxe features more than 200 levels organized into four distinct worlds, the newest of which is an Atlantis-themed setting with 50 stages. The Atlantis-themed world introduces new enemy types, combat scenarios, and boss fights. One of those bosses is Colossus, a large enemy that players can climb during the fight. The game supports one to four players locally, with both cooperative and competitive options and full gamepad and keyboard support. Tag mode is a new game mode where a single hat becomes the prize and players use arrows to steal the hat from one another. Hats in Twin Shot Deluxe function as both cosmetics and gameplay modifiers. Among the confirmed examples, the Twisted Hat reverses the direction of fire, the Old Boot converts enemies into platforms to jump from, and the Medusa Headdress petrifies the wearer. These hats and other items are unlocked through the in-game loot system. The same system also revives the original game’s cheats and unlockables, such as alternate character skins, weapons, modes, a music player, health options, and fun extras including Fart mode, Tag mode, and giant character mode.
The original soundtrack by composer Dave Cowen has been remastered at full audio quality, with new compositions included as well. The controls have been improved for responsiveness, with Nitrome noting specific attention given to how the character moves through the air, stops, and jumps, while preserving what they describe as the feel of the original.
Twin Shot Deluxe is available to wishlist now on Steam.
