Fans can officially breath a sigh of relief as Team Ninja has announced that their upcoming game, Nioh 2, has officially gone gold and will retain its launch date of March 13. For those who don’t know, when a game goes gold that means the core development of the title has been completed and the production of the day 1 patch can begin ahead of the launch date. The idea is that the title will be fully optimized and ready to go when you start it up on the system, in this case Nioh 2 for the PlayStation 4, and possibly PC later in the year.
The anticipation has been slowly building ever since it was announced at E3 2018. The game went through a couple of test phases last year, a closed Alpha, and most recently an open Beta near the end of last year. Judging from the feedback on those tests, Team Ninja seems to be confident with their IP, as well as addressing those with complaints and issues with a rather large list of changes they plan on implementing within the final product.
In the past few months alone, CD Projekt RED, Naughty Dog, and Square Enix announced delay’s to their upcoming games. Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us Part II, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvels Avengers were all given new dates throughout 2020. With all of these delays, it’s surprising to see such a highly anticipated title not change its initial scheduled launch date. Now that the game is gold, that March release date is essentially ironclad, and fans looking forward to the sequel can properly prepare for the difficult horde of demons, and insanely difficult bosses that await them.
Speaking of insane, it was also revealed on the third anniversary of the first Nioh that the game has sold more than three million units world wide since it’s initial launch in February 2017. This includes physical as well as digital copies. While it wasn’t clearly stated, it’s assumed that these numbers represent both PlayStation 4 and PC, with the latter helping out significantly when it was re-released later that same year and expanding to a wider audience.
Nioh 2 will officially launch on March 13, 2020 for the PlayStation 4.
