In their newest live stream planned for July 10th, Nintendo revealed to be planning to showcase many future games (even though there are no future Nintendo Direct titles coming). The stream is set to start at 10 AM PT/ 1 PM ET on YouTube, the official Nintendo website, and Twitch but is also available to rewatch on Youtube for those that cannot watch it as it is happening in real-time.
More specifically, Nintendo says they will broadcast gameplay of the upcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King (a week before its release). Along with that, the company will reveal new title from the developer WayForwared (mostly known for the Shantae series). While the original tweet is vague about exactly WayForward has to show, there is a followup tweet under the one embedded that clarifies that the new title is based on a third party property rather than something based on Nintendo’s biggest series. Because of the wording, many comments have fans speculating whether this game is based on an already in progress IP or not. Not much has been seen from WayForward after their 2019 release of River City Girls, which was set to be a revival of the NES game River City Ransom.
With Paper Mario’s release coming up quickly, Nintendo has also revealed in a shareholder’s meeting that the COVID-19 pandemic has not affected any of their future first-party developments. In this same meeting, Nintendo was also asked if there were any plans for a new Nintendo console in the future, which was answered with “We want to extend the life cycle of the Nintendo Switch while maximizing such advantages available to players.”
