When Nintendo announced that Zelda U would be delayed and come out along side the NX, it was off-offhandedly mentioned that Zelda U would be the focus of their E3 conference this year.
Nintendo made good on that promise, according to Polygon, instead of the traditional Nintendo Direct conference Nintendo’s presentation will focus solely The Legend of Zelda.
Nintendo’s COO Reggie Fils-Aime will also host a day long stream, called Nintendo Treehouse: Live, that will show off gameplay for Zelda U. The stream will start at 9:00 AM PT on Tuesday June 14th and will broadcast concurrently on Twitch, YouTube, and Nintendo’s site.
According to the press release Kotaku received, the stream “will be the world’s first in-depth look at the game, which will also include commentaries by Nintendo developers…game coverage, behind-the-scenes info and plenty of fun.”
Good news is at least fans at E3 will get to play the new Zelda game, which will also be only playable game Nintendo will have at the event.
For those who won’t be at E3 this year Nintendo is offering a trip for two to L.A. to come and play the game at E3. All you have to is tweet @NintendoAmerica using the hashtags #MyZeldaLegend and #NintendoSweepstakes explaining what The Legend of Zelda series means to you. The contest ends on May 10th and a winner will be chosen at random, so good luck!
It’s kind of odd that Nintendo is doing this, especially with Pokémon Sun and Moon coming out this year and NX still mostly mystery. I have never seen a company focus entirely on one game, it should be interesting to see how it turns out.
The next Legend of Zelda will release for both the Wii U and the NX, with Nintendo’s next console set for a release sometime in March of next year.
