Mr.Shifty is an action game that involves clipping through walls as quickly as possible. However, players on the Nintendo Switch are having trouble doing that due to some extreme frame rate issues. The games frame rate drops down in some of it’s more intense fights. Some of that slow down is manageable at times but in some moments it can kill you. The games unique physics are linked to it’s frame rate, so any drops at all can have a significant effect on gameplay.
When Nintendo reached out to developer, Team Shifty about the issue, the studio’s response was flippant. “We’re doing what we can,” Team Shifty Wrote on Twitter. “It’s still early on the platform. Remember that even Zelda stutters.” After a user responded that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild’s frame rate has drastically improved since it’s launch in March, the studio pinned the issue on the Unity Engine’s inconsistent performance on the Nintendo Switch thus far. “We are also a very small team.” Team Shifty added. “Compromise the experience by cutting stuff out or drop frames, we chose the latter.”When that same user pointed out that Mr.Shifty’s frequent frame rate drops were disappointing, the studio then pointed them to the more stable Windows PC version.
@BruiserBear76 We're doing what we can. It's still early on the platform. Remember that even Zelda stutters.

@teamshiftygames Zelda is a massive open world game, Mr Shifty most certainly is not. Also, Zelda is nearly a locked 30 after latest patch. 🙂

This was the comment that really worked up the Nintendo Switch fans. This then led to Alex Nichiporchik the CEO of the game’s publisher, TinyBuild, to step in after an Ask Me Anything Session on Reddit with Team Shifty. As the team continued to talk around the idea of patching the game, Nichiporchik promised otherwise. He explained the cause of the problem that when you take “A brand new platform with brand new development tools and a 3rd party engine,” You’re asking for trouble and said that both TinyBuild and Team Shifty are now looking out for these slowdown issues to fix them in a patch.
Nichiporchik also apologized for the earlier comments that were made by Team Shifty. “I’m just very sorry that the stress on everyone involved created this situation,” Nichiporchik wrote on the Nintendo Switch subReddit. “Some things were said that shouldn’t have been, and we didn’t do a good job with communicating here. I hope this post brings some context to what’s going on.”
