Nintendo’s new console, the Switch, has been selling extremely well. Though they have yet to produce hard numbers, Nintendo has stated that the Switch is their fastest-selling console of all time. Thus, Nintendo has announced that they will be producing twice as many Switch consoles as they had originally planned, doubling production from 8 million units over the course of the next year to 16 million. The Switch has managed to do well despite some complaints about the left Joy-Con controller not working, which Nintendo has recently addressed and has reportedly dealt with.
As one could expect from such sales, it has become hard to find a Switch anywhere since they’re being sold out everywhere. In TechnoBuffalo article, Eric Bright, GameStop’s Senior Director of Marketing, stated that, while he cannot give exact sales numbers, the Switch is on track to outsell the Wii if it keeps up its current pace. Since its release in 2006, the Wii has sold over 100 million units, making it Nintendo’s best-selling home console of all time. GameStop is one such retailer that regularly runs out of Switch consoles due to the high demand.
Another retailer that has sold out of Switchs mulitple times is Toys R Us. According to GameSpot, Toys R Us has reported that they are getting new shipments of Switchs tomorrow, March 25. A representative from Toys R Us recommends that anyone interested in buying a Switch get to a store quickly as they expect the new shipment of consoles to “fly off [the] shelves.” The Switch costs $299.99 and does not come with any bundled games.
