For twenty two years, Team 17 has been giving the world Worms, it seemed that no matter where you turned, Worms was there to fill all your chaotic worm based artillery combat needs. Of course if you were a die hard Nintendo gamer, you’ve missed out on about seven years of Worm-y goodness, that is, until now. Team 17 has announced that they are turning their efforts towards bringing Worms W.M.D. (Worms of Mass Destruction) to the Nintendo Switch.
Worms brings chaotic multiplayer action to a new level by throwing in dozens of weapons, both classic and brand new, and allowing up to five opponents armed with up to eight worms each to have at it in a fully destructible environment. Worms has enjoyed twenty four released games, not including spin-offs, with Worms W.M.D. being the most recent, released in 2016. Worms W.M.D. introduced beautiful new graphics, and for the first time in the series, interactive vehicles.
Worms W.M.D. recieved fairly positive reviews, catching a 78 on Metacritic for the PS4, it’s also received two updates. ‘Forts”, which allowed for the each team of worms to infiltrate and destroy each other’s bases and “Allstars”, which included weapons, cosmetic options, and new missions that pulled inspiration from other video games like Rocket League. No word yet, but I would expect these updates to be included with the base game when it comes to switch.
It will be exciting to see how the Switch’s local wireless effects the experience of playing Worms, but with global and local wireless play, anyone who steps into the Worms Stadium needs to brush up on their surgical ninjitsu precision:
Or be ready to bring on the full on chaotic destruction of the stinky carpet bomb:
