Nintendo’s catalogue of mobile games has just expanded with the shadow drop of their new game Fire Emblem Shadows. The mobile game was both announced and released today on September 25th.
Fire Emblem Shadows was first revealed in an announcement from Nintendo alongside the game’s official launch trailer. In the announcement, the game is described as a “spin-off of the Fire Emblem series…[introducing] a new style of battles featuring role-playing and social deduction.” Both the announcement and the trailer reveal how that this title will feature real-time social deduction, similar to other mobile games such as Among Us or Goose Goose Duck.
The trailer and announcement also reveal the game’s central premise. There will be three players per round, two of whom are “disciples of light” and one who is a “disciple of shadow.” The trailer reveals that the role a player takes on is a personal choice, separating it from other social deduction games which randomly assign a player’s at the beginning of each round. After players make their choice and finish the round’s first battle, a vote will be held to uncover the identity of the shadow disciple. The goal for the disciples of light is to unmask the shadow disciple, while the shadow disciple is looking to deceive the disciples of light and remain undetected. According to the announcement, “Whether the disciples of light can correctly discover the traitor—or the disciple of shadow can successfully deceive the others—holds the key to how the next battle unfolds.”
The official Fire Emblem Shadows Website reveals two other features, namely the inclusion of a season pass and cosmetics. The current season pass, named “Wind of the Plains,” has both a free and a premium version. The free pass will give players 4,000 coins, 4,000 gems, and a small amount character upgrade materials. The premium pass will give players access to over double the amount of resources in the free pass and an additional weapon named Mulagir. There will also be character costumes added to the game, which are currently “onesie” outfits for Kurt, Gotthold, Carina, Alberta, Zasha, and Rose. These outfits will not affect gameplay and are only available for the “light” version of the characters.
Those with either an iOS or Android device can currently download and play the game through the App and Google Play stores.
