Every year in the months before E3 there are a lot of rumors and reports speculating the next big thing to be shown off that year and this year is no different. As of late that there have been a multitude of rumors going around stating that Nintendo currently has new versions of the Nintendo Switch in development and that they are planning to unveil these updated consoles at this year’s E3. Numerous reports have been out claiming a new lower costing version of the Switch as well as a enhanced version of the hybrid console are in the works.
In addition to this the base version of the Switch was supposedly supposed to get a “modest upgrade” as well. Another claim to too top these all off were that the new cheaper Switch would be released by the end of this June. However, in light of all of these rumors Nintendo has come forward in order to put to rest all of these rumors stating that new models of the Switch are to be revealed at this year’s big convention.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated within an earnings call “As a general rule, we’re always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it. But we have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June.” Although this may be a bit disappointing to fans this doesn’t mean that new consoles aren’t in the works and won’t be revealed either sometime before or after E3.
Nintendo has made it a trend to make new announcements during their Nintendo Direct presentations and the official reveal of new consoles wouldn’t be too far fetched for to show up in any one of them. As for what company does plan to show during their E3 presentation it looks like it’s strictly on the software side this go around.
