For those lucky enough to snag tickets to this year’s SDCC, from July 21st to July 24th, Nintendo will be offering the opportunity to experience “the latest and greatest video games,” compete in tournaments for prizes, and take photos with iconic characters.
The Play Nintendo Family Lounge will be on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, steps away from the convention center. Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Pokémon will be there, along with new and upcoming games like YO-KAI WATCH 2, Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, and Kirby: Planet Robobot.
The Play Nintendo Tour will be integrated into the Family Lounge as well – this one-of-a-kind tour offers an engaging new experience while playing games, like relaxing on a giant banana while playing Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, or trembling under a blue Spiny Shell from Mario Kart 7.
On July 23, players 12 years or younger can participate in a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament, which will be live-streamed on the Nintendo Twitch channel. The Play Nintendo Challenge, on July 21st, 22nd, and 24th, will involve three elimination rounds composed of three different games, and the winner will receive an exclusive champion Nintendo t-shirt. Voice actors from YO-KAI WATCH will be conducting a Q&A session on July 22, and various photo and Pokémon trading opportunities will be available during the lounge’s entire duration.
Splatoon battles and competitions will be available at Nintendo booth #235 on the SDCC show floor, along with an up-close view of the latest amiibo lineup. And, to top it all off, two of the games offered at the lounge – YO-KAI WATCH 2 and Style Savvy: Fashion Forward – are exclusive pre-release previews, only for fans who visit the lounge during SDCC.
All in all, if you need a break from the gloom and doom of gritty comic book franchises, its worthwhile to stop by the Play Nintendo Family Lounge for some classic Nintendo fun with plenty of bright colors and cheerful songs.
