Nintendo Partners with Esports Platform Battlefy

Esports platform, Battlefly, will host amateur Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitions. Their new partnership with Nintendo of America will see Battlefy’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. North America Ultimate Online Open Spring 2020 competition take place next week. The competitions will create a launching platform for players looking to become professional Super Smash Bros. esports players.

General Manager at Battlefy, Yohan Sengamalay, commented to Esports Insider, saying: “Our goal is to create an open online series in which anyone in North America can compete with a chance to gain access to the biggest live events like EVO and Genesis 7.” Battlefy and Nintendo continue to build off their relationship established in 2019, when Battlefy hosted six events for the official Nintendo Smash Bros. Ultimate circuit. Battlefy was able to attract 6,500 competitors in its North American qualifiers. This new deal will see Nintendo aid promotion for Battlefy’s Super Smash Bros. tournaments, and fund travel and prize components throughout the year. The two companies work together to provide the best online competitive experience .

Though traditionally an esports-adverse company. Nintendo continues to dive further into the esports world. Last year, the American division helped sponsor Genesis 7. Amateur esports is often overlooked, but its essential to the esports industry. Battlefy’s partnership with Nintendo is sure to provide support to the amateur community. Sengamalay acknowledges this impact: “Our partnership with Nintendo over the last year is a great example of an esports circuit built with a major publisher for the wider community… We’re incredibly excited about the future of the Super Smash Bros. Open in 2020.”

Battlefy is home to multiple amateur esports competitons, ranging from League of Legends to Overwatch. Their next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament will take place February 19th at 10pm. It’s an international competition featuring 9 competitors with a first and second place prize of 20% and 10% off at the Battlefy shop respectively.
