Nintendo Dropping Wii U Price To $299.99

Nintendo has announced that, to coincide with the release of Wind Waker HD, the Wii U is receiving a $50 price cut on September 20, going from $349.99 to $299.99.

To draw attention to both Wind Waker HD‘s release and the price cut, Nintendo is releasing a Wind Waker Wii U bundle, which includes a Wii U with a 32-gig hard drive, a digital copy of Wind Waker HD, a digital version of the Hyrule Historia book chronicling the lore of the Legend of Zelda series, and a Zelda-themed GamePad.

The Wii U released November 2012, meaning the console hasn’t even been out a year before the price cut. To compare, the Wii went for almost three years before cutting its price of $249.99 to $199.99. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the price drop is a move toward “heightening the value” of the Wii U with the incoming flux of new games this holiday season.
