Nintendo has announced that a brand new Nintendo Direct presentation will take place on Wednesday, September 4, which is tomorrow, and will have a focal point on Nintendo Switch titles for the remainder of 2019. The Direct will also have a greater emphasis on two particular games, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The company will broadcast the Direct on their Twitch, Youtube, and Twitter channels at 3:00 pm PST/6 pm/EST and will be 40 minutes in length. Luigi’s Mansion 3 was finally given release date this past Summer, and a most appropriate one at that. Fans have been waiting since 2012 for a proper follow up, and it looks to be the biggest entry yet. We were able to get our hands on it during E3, and came away fairly impressed.
Pokemon Sword and Shield needs no introduction, as it is easily the most anticipated Nintendo game of 2019. Nintendo is literally throwing everything into this project, with new competitive based battles, new villain team to contend with, the ridiculous Giantmaxing ability, and of course version exclusives. The company has built up the entire year for this one, and while there is little doubt it will sell, it will be interesting to see how the gaming community reacts to such an ambitious undertaking for their beloved franchise.
These two games aren’t the only ones that are coming out though. Nintendo’s Fall/Winter lineup is stacked, with notables such as The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening, Daemon X Machina, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition, and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age: Definitive Edition. With such an impressive lineup, it makes sense for the company to give a brief refresher on what to expect for the rest of 2019.
However, this also gives Nintendo a chance to surprise us with some cool reveals. One instance would be Blizzard’s popular FPS, Overwatch, coming to the Switch. This was already teased/leaked when an Overwatch-themed Switch case was spotted on Amazon before quickly being taken down. Another would be release date for the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, a game that has undergone some big changes since the development team changed hands. While the latter is unlikely, it would be nice to hear some updates about the somewhat dormant franchise.
