The Nintendo Direct has just aired worldwide and the fifth DLC character has been revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Game producer Masahiro Sakurai revealed that very few people actually knew who the newest DLC character was going to be stating that “I think many Nintendo employees will be surprised to see this and say ‘wow, really?!'” He ends the introduction stating that once the video starts, players will “figure out who it is pretty quickly.” The fifth DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the protagonist Byleth from Fire Emblem Three Houses.
This is the eighth Fire Emblem character to be added to the roster of the game. The reveal trailer shows off Byleth in both male and female forms wielding their classic weapon, the Sword Of The Creator. With the sword, Byleth will be able to use its extension features to attack from both near and far. The reveal also showcases the sword’s ability to grab onto an enemy midair and and strike them down.
If that isn’t enough, the reveal also shows that Byleth will be able to use three of the other Heroes’ Relics. While wielding Dimitri’s spear Areadbhar Byleth can slash and strike his foes from afar, dealing lots of damage at mid-range. With Edelgard’s axe Aymyr, players will be able to dominate close range, destroying the competition. Players will be able to swiftly strike their enemies from afar with Failnaught, the mythical bow of Arthurian legend.
Byleth’s final smash is called Progenitor God Ruptured Heaven, which allows Byleth to use an enhanced version of the move from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. In this version Byleth teams up with the goddess Sothis to deal massive damage.
While this is the final DLC fighter in this Fighter’s Pass DLC, Sakurai has promised that the game will have more DLC fighters released in the future. Sakurai revealed that six additional DLC fighters have already been chosen for Volume 2 of the Fighter’s Pass, which comes out on December 31st, 2021.
Byleth will be available for purchase in Smash on January 28, costing gamers $5.99. Players who have the first Fighter’s Pass will have Byleth automatically added once the 28th hits.
