It looks like Ring Fit Adventure is yet another big hit for Nintendo. The companies most recent attempt to get us in shape while having fun has been a successful one thus far, especially in their native Japan. Unfortunately it seems like Nintendo underestimated the demand for Ring Fit Adventure as they have released a statement apologizing for the insufficient amount of units in their region.
Nintendo has apologized for supplying insufficient stock of Ring Fit Adventure in Japan. Will aim to deliver additional units by the end of the year.
Demand for the game has been higher than expected. The title has sold through 260,000 units in Japan so far. https://t.co/c1hG70IwhU

According to the company, the game has been in short supply not too long after it launched in October. In the press release, Nintendo states that they will be continuing to ship every week, as well as increasing the number of shipments towards the end of the year. As it states in the above tweet by video game statistician Daniel Ahmad, the game has sold approximately 260,000 units in Japan. If Nintendo makes good on this and is able to have more shipments before the end of the year, that number could be exponentially higher.
Since the game comes with a physical peripheral for the Switch, it’s not possible to play it as a digital download. Therefore, the game is only available physically which might be one of the main factors for the lack of supply. The other reason is that Nintendo wasn’t ready for the game to be in such high demand, especially since Pokemon Sword and Shield was due to launch less than a month later. Sword and Shield would also go onto become the fastest selling Switch games as well as the highest grossing games in franchise history.
Still, Ring Fit Adventure seems to be holding it’s own in the video game market. The game has been well received by critics and fans alike, with the majority of them pointing to the excellent blend of exercise and gaming that the title offers. The last time Nintendo offered a new peripheral was the Wii Fit, which didn’t offer too much in terms of variety. Hopefully the stores will be able to have sufficient stock for the holidays now that Nintendo has a firm grasp of the demand.
Ring Fit Adventure is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
