In financial Q&A posted to Nintendo Japan, Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa issued an apology for the drift issues that have been plaguing Joy-Con controllers since the Switch’s initial release. Nintendo is still dealing with the same class-action lawsuit from 2019 regarding the functionality of the Joy-Con controllers. The lawsuit was filed accusing Nintendo of lack of disclosure on the functionality of their Joy-Con products, leading to a large number of user-reported controller malfunctions and drifting issues. The release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, and its unchangeable Joy-Con controllers, also led to the Lite version of the Switch being added to the class-action lawsuit for functionality issues.
Nintendo has announced their first official public apology about the controllers following a question at the financial Q&A that was asked regarding the state of improvement of the technology in the Joy-Con controllers. “Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize for any trouble caused to our customers,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. “We are continuing to aim to improve our products, but as the Joy-Con is the subject of a class-action lawsuit in the United States and this is still a pending issue, we would like to refrain from responding about any specific actions.”
Despite the apology, there is still no news or information about if Nintendo is planning to implement fixes for the Joy-Con controllers. For now, Nintendo urges anyone experiencing Joy-Con issues to seek help on Nintendo’s support website. On the support website, you can submit ticket to start getting your Joy-Con repaired. Players have reported drift issues eventually returning to their controllers despite sending them into Nintendo for repairs, an issue that Nintendo has not addressed yet. Though no other new information has been reported about the current state of the technology of the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers, Nintendo encourages any who have issues to seek help through the official support page.
