Nintendo has announced the Western release date for Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition, a new version of the seventh installment in the main series Professor Layton games developed by Level-5, for the Nintendo Switch. Originally released worldwide on iOS, Android, and the Nintendo 3DS in 2017, the Deluxe Edition of the title made its way to the Switch exclusively in Japan in August 2018. Now, it will come to North America and Europe in November 2019.
The Deluxe Edition will feature the same content as the original version of the game, and more: all DLC released for the game on past platforms will be included in the Deluxe Edition, in addition to 40 new puzzles to solve and 50 new outfits for players to earn as they play through the game. This is the first Professor Layton title to come to a home console and is expected to have new and improved graphics, at least compared to the 3DS version of the game.
Layton’s Mystery Journey follows Katrielle “Kat” Layton on her quest to find her missing father, the franchise’s titular character Professor Hershel Layton, a renowned archaeologist with a knack for solving puzzles. Along the way, she encounters different mysteries and puzzles to solve. Kat is joined by her assistant Ernest Greeves and a mysterious talking dog named Sherl. The original Layton’s Mystery Journey had somewhat of a—spoiler—cliffhanger ending, so it’s unknown if the Deluxe Edition will provide any clarification or just leave it as is.
Like past Professor Layton games, players will explore their surroundings in different areas and solve puzzles by using the touchscreen, when playing the Switch portably. When the Switch is docked, players can use their Joy-Con’s motion controls to interact with the world.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition launches on the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe on November 8, 2019.
