Nintendo has announced a new Pokémon Direct for this coming Thursday, January 9, at 6:30 AM PT / 9:30 AM ET. The Direct will run “for roughly 20 minutes” and include “new Pokémon information.” It’s not clear what exact information or games they’ll be covering, but many have already begun speculating on Twitter.
Many believe the Pokémon Company will at least touch on some of the titles announced last May during the Pokémon press conference, as there hasn’t been any news for those titles since then. The possible games that could be discussed include Pokémon Home, Pokémon Sleep, and the Detective Pikachu sequel.
Home will be available for both Switch and mobile devices, and will be this generation’s equivalent to Pokémon Bank—an app to store and transfer Pokémon between games. Sleep, meanwhile, is still somewhat of a mystery as all we know so far is it can monitor your sleep via an external device, the Pokémon Go Plus +. Both Home and Sleep are expected to release in 2020. The Detective Pikachu sequel has the least information so far, as the only information shared about it was the fact that it would release on the Switch at an unknown time.
This Pokémon Direct is already shaping up to be interesting, as Serebii.net founder Joe Merrick has figured out this Direct will be the longest Pokémon Direct ever, as he compared the 20-minute estimated time to past Directs.
This gives the Pokémon Company more time than ever to cover their new information, so there are a lot of possibilities for what will be talked about.
