Nintendo has announced an online tournament for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players. From Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19, players can participate in the Mario Kart North American Online Open. Each day the top eight players will win 2500 My Nintendo Gold Points, which is equivalent to $25 USD.
According to the details on Nintendo’s website, players can compete in up to 24 races per day, which will be set at the 150cc difficulty. Each player’s ranking within the tournament will be determined by the cumulative total from each of their individual races’ results. The tournament runs each day from 12 PM to 6 PM PST, giving players a six hour window to complete their daily 24 races.
To participate, players must input a new tournament code each day during the tournament’s hours. On January 17, the code is 0799-6132-1003. On January 18, the code is 2403-5150-5963. On January 19, the code is 1453-2535-4539.
Though the winners won’t be notified via email about their victory until “on or about” January 24, players who make the top eight are not allowed to compete in the rest of the tournament days. For example, if someone was in the top eight on the first day of the tournament, they cannot compete in the following two days. They can still participate, but when Nintendo calculates the winners, their results from the two days following their victory will not be counted so as to give more players a chance at winning the prize, according to Nintendo’s official rules.
My Nintendo Gold Points can be redeemed for various items on My Nintendo, such as computer and phone backgrounds featuring art from different games, in-game items for some of Nintendo’s free-to-play games, and discounts on digital purchases of a few games.
