Ninja Responds to Inactive Twitch Channel Mistakenly Promoting Explicit Stream

Earlier this month, popular Fortnite streamer Ninja made the transition from Twitch to Mixer to host his gaming streams. While Ninja will now be using Mixer exclusively, his Twitch channel is still there, albeit unused. In his absence, Twitch has seized the opportunity to use his page to promote other streams, a practice that Ninja claims is unique to his channel. During the process, a porn stream was accidentally featured as the top promoted stream on his channel.

Earlier today, Ninja took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the whole ordeal. “This is the line, this is the straw. We’re trying to get the whole channel taken down, to begin with, or at least not promote other streamers and other channels on my brand, on my frigging profile.” In the video posted on Twitter, Ninja claims that no other offline or inactive channels were being used to promote other streams. Emmett Shear, the CEO of Twitch, released a statement on Twitter saying that the streaming service has been “experimenting with showing recommended content across Twitch, including on streamer’s pages that are offline,” not just on Ninja’s channel. Shear has also personally apologized to Ninja for the ordeal and made note that the lewd channel is now permanently banned.

In the video he posted on Twitter, Ninja also offered a public apology to the fans that may have seen the explicit channel promotion, despite no wrongdoings on his part. Shortly before the Tweet from Shear went out, Ninja announced that his offline Twitch page had been reverted back to the normal offline view. The experimental Twitch channel recommendations have been suspended, according to Shear, while they look into how the explicit channel was selected for promotion in the first place.
