NieR: Automata is filled with surreal, odd, and dark themes, and its music was amazing enough to win the Best Music/Score at The Game Awards 2017. To commemorate the game’s first anniversary and huge success, Famitsu held an interview with some developers of the game, and it was revealed that there is a hidden secret left in NieR: Automata that has yet to be discovered.
In the interview, the developers talk about how they had hoped their game would sell over one million copies, but never expected that the number would exceed two million. They also go on to talk about the future of the NieR series, and how grateful they are that loyal fans stuck around to make NieR: Automata as successful as it is. Yoko Taro also has a game that is being proposed to NieR Automata’s producer, Yosuke Saito. The development team hopes that in 2020, the 10th anniversary of the original NieR, they will have some big news regarding the title.
The highlight of that interview was, of course, Nier: Automata‘s last undiscovered secret, which has also been dubbed as “that”. The developers were not clear with what “that” will entail, other than “that” was put into the game for various reasons. Due to the nature of the secret, if the developers were to go into any more detail, “problems” might occur. In typical Yoko Taro fashion, one hint as to what the secret is about is that it will be unpleasant. It is also said that this is NieR: Automata‘s final secret, so this will be the last thing of major significance left to find.
Luckily, now might be the best time to try and figure out NieR: Automata‘s last secret. The title is currently on sale on Steam for $29.99, and is available for PlayStation 4 for $49.99.
