Ni No Kuni 2 Shows Off a New Combat System at E3

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom has a tough act to follow in 2012’s beloved Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. The sequel, currently showing at Bandai Namco’s E3 booth, is bringing a new, fresh perspective to the game’s fantasy world, with new gameplay elements, new characters, and an all-new story.

The main character in Ni no Kuni 2 is a young king named Evan, who has to take up his throne after his father’s untimely demise. He joins up with some sky pirates and a grown-up leader transported from the real world on a quest to discover himself and become a true leader for his people.

One of the biggest changes in Ni no Kuni 2 is the game’s combat system moving more towards a real-time system. While in the first game battle commands were input in a paused menu, and then released to watch unfold on the battlefield, commands will now have to be input while the battle rages on, opening up new possibilities in fights. Cute little elemental sprites called Higgledies will also bring a new dimension to combat, as they will fight alongside you and can join together to affect the flow of combat, giving the player buffs, healing, or offensive options.

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is set for release on November 10, 2017, for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
