Next Gears of War 4 Update Will Change the Gnasher’s Mechanics

After getting numerous reports about players getting furious after missing a near point bank shot with the Gnasher, the Coalition has decided to make a few changes to how the gun will fire. After the upcoming March update, the Gnasher should be more true to life than it currently is.

“We have received numerous reports and videos from users regarding some point blank inconsistencies with the Gnasher across all game modes, and upon investigation, have made some mechanical changes to the Gnasher that brings improvements,” said the Coalition in blog post.

The reason behind the inconsistencies was due to the fact that to prevent players from being able to shoot through walls, the pellets began to spread from back of the Gnasher instead of the end of the barrel.

After some further investigation, we discovered that a mechanic that has been present in past Gears games to prevent shooting through walls was creating a perceived inconsistency with the Gnasher.  The Gnasher would typically have its pellets start from the stock of the gun and move through the barrel.  This was to prevent users from shooting through walls. This pull back means that the spread is wider than is intuitive at the end of the barrel, and so players were missing some of the pellets when they thought they should have hit with the whole cluster.

Within the blog post, the coalition provided a before and after photo to show the difference that the new update will bring to the Gnasher. On the left picture you’ll be able to see how the Gnasher currently works, while the right will show how the bullets will spread after the update.

After the update is put into place, the Coalition will monitor the rate at which players are able to shoot through walls, or if that will even be the case. “The impact of these changes will hopefully mean a more intuitive experience.  There will be a slight change in feel of the gun, but we hope that people will see more clearly when they hit or miss a target.”

In the video shown above, its clear that The Coalition doesn’t want players to feel like they are robbed of a kill when they miss a few pellets that miss due to the guns mechanics. Personally this has happened to me a few times where you get 98% damage in 1 direct point blank hit and you know for a fact that at that range you should have gotten the kill.

There is no set date for the release other than it will arrive in March.
