This year marks the 40th anniversary of Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace classic arcade cabinets. To commemorate the occasion, New Wave Toys has announced the Space Ace x RepliCade, the first arcade machine of RepliCade Wave II. New Wave Toys has also done RepliCades for Asteroids X, Q*bert, Street Fighter II, 1942 and 1943, and Missle Command.
Space Ace is the spiritual sequel to Dragon’s Lair and plays the same. The player has to make the right move in order for the game to continue. The game follows the adventures of the hero Dexter, better known as Ace on a mission to stop the villainous Commander Borf. Borf is going to attack Earth with his “Infanto Ray” to render Earthlings helpless by reverting them back into Infants.
There are two versions that players can purchase. the Space Ace x RepliCade is based on the rare Cinematronics/Magicom dedicated cabinet. The Space Ace Conversion Kit Edition recreates the Dragon’s Lair cabs converted to Space Ace. The Space Ace x RepliCade features the fully playable Space AgeLaserDisc arcade game running on the Daphne emulator, a fully functional digital scoreboard with skill level indicator, HDTV connectivity with screen mirroring, and a replica LDV1000 Mini LaserDisc player prop. The Conversion Kit Emulator features Space Ace marquee, side panel, and control panel cabinet art, an updated control panel with illuminated skill level buttons, a Cinematronics raised letter metal coin door, red t-molding, a prop replica commercial-grade LDV1000 LaserDisc player with prop Space Ace LaserDisk, and the Space Ace LaserDisc arcade game ROM running on the Daphne emulator.
New Wave also announced the Dragon’s Lair x RepliCade Overhaul in both Red and Black T-molding editions. New exclusive features and updates include a more powerful processor to enable HDTV screen mirroring, individually numbered Cinematronics cabinet branding, Cinematronics raised letter metal coin door, mini prop replica of the commercial-grade LDV1000 LaserDisc player used in Gen 2+ production runs of Dragon’s Lair, special Cinematronics packaging, plus a bonus Dragon’s Lair one sheet mini-poster.
All 4 cabinets are now available for preorder. The presale runs now through Friday, March 25. Each cabinet costs $149.99. They are all expected to ship in Q1 2023.
