For many of their Mario series spin-off titles, Nintendo will add additional content over time that usually help to provide a fresh experience or provide new settings to play with. While these updates are occasionally hinted at, they can also come as a pleasant surprise to many fans, providing them with additional options without warning one day. This is the case with the recently announced and released update for Mario Tennis Fever, which is themed around Super Mario Galaxy.
In keeping with the identity of Mario’s space adventure, the new update’s most prominent feature is the new court, Galaxy Court, which takes place on a grassy planet with a Toad Brigade Spaceship and Starship Mario from Super Mario Galaxy both visible in the distance. The space background also influences the physics of the match by causing balls to bounce higher and be stay in the air longer.
The update also includes a number of other features the support the central theme, including a black hole racket that pulls in the enemy team if they get too close to where the ball lands. Another customization option allows players to change the color of Luma to reflect the colors they could appear as in-game. The final surprise of the new stage is the ability to play with Prankster Comets. Similarly to their behavior in Super Mario Galaxy, they add chaos to the match by introducing speed boosts, one-hit KOs, and cosmic helpers that can support either side. Finally, the update includes the ability to use GameShare to play with friends.
Keeping updates as a surprise stops players from getting bored with the content before it ever comes out. The reception in the comments for Nintendo’s new trailer confirms that the drop was a welcome addition for many fans. The new update for Mario Tennis Fever is freely available now on Switch 2.
