When it comes to mythology and folklore, one of the most criminally underrated in gaming is Chinese mythology. However, thanks to games like Black Myth: Wukong and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the mythology has become much more popular and is appearing more often in games. And on June 26th, we got a new story trailer for the upcoming souls-like game Sword Sage: Awakening, inspired by Chinese mythology and folklore. Sword Panda is currently developing the game and is being published by 4Divinity. The game is an action RPG. There is no current release date, but it will be available on PC via Steam and Epic Games, and it can be wishlisted now.
In this brand-new trailer for the game, we get a good look at the world itself, which is set in Jiannandao, where ancient disasters, Chinese folklore, and science fiction merge. We follow our protagonist, San Niang, as she travels the land and takes on various creatures on her journey. The trailer showcased the game’s combat, and it lives up to its action RPG style; it looks heavily inspired by games like Sekiro and Black Myth: Wukong. The combat mixes swordplay, martial arts, and mystical artifacts to create a high-paced combat system that looks fun and engaging for players. The trailer also showed off tons of creatures we will encounter, and the protagonist mastering the game blends Chinese folklore and science fiction well, creating a unique world.
It’s still too early to tell how the game will truly play, as even in the trailer itself, the game looks to still be in early development, as it looked a bit rough, but overall the game still looks very good. The developers appear very passionate about the game and are crafting an interesting world that many are now looking forward to. As mentioned before, it’s still too early, but honestly, this is a game to look out for if you like Souls-like games and Chinese mythology, as it blends them to create something cool. Sword Sage: Awakening has no release date yet, but it will be available on PC via Steam and Epic Games, and it can be wishlisted now.
