At the Summer Games Fest, in another example of the new wave of Chinese video games coming to us. NetEase and 24 Entertainment, the creators of Naraka: Bladepoint, brings us new story trailer for Blood Message, the story of an ancient Chinese warrior and his son as they travel through a world full of war, strife, and blood.
In a story set during the time of the Tang Dynasty, you’ll find yourself besieged in several of the massive scale Chinese conflicts history knows them for, taking control of a poor father who’s riddled with guilt and likely PTSD with protecting his son being the only thing keeping him going, this story is sure to be a brutal and heartfelt one.
This is a Chinese game set in Chinese history, so if you really want to experience a historical Chinese setting presented by a genuine Chinese viewpoint this is a great jumping off point, similar to how Black Myth: Wukong was a fantastic introduction to Chinese myth. This is a great cultural jumping off point if you’re interested in the Tang Dynasty, or Chinese history in general, even if it is probably going to be a bit fantastical.
Of course, this is a story trailer, so we don’t see any gameplay. But you can probably extrapolate what kind of game it’ll be by what we see in the trailer, with a lot of grounded swordplay and hectic scenarios where you find yourself in the middle of a massive conflict, struggling to survive. A narrative journey and sure to be an emotional one, we’ll have to really see how 24 Entertainment presents a single player cinematic experience to us, and it’ll be sure to be a spectacle.
