

Back in 2022, Valve released the Steam Deck and helped usher in the current wave of popularity with handheld gaming being a staple in everyday gaming. With that, many were and have been wondering whether or not if Valve would be doing any other new hardware. Today, those questions have been revealed with the announcement of new Steam hardware set to release in early 2026. The Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame are all powered by Steam, optimized for gaming in any form. And just like Steam Deck, all are designed to help players to get even more out of their Steam Library.

The Steam Controller, Machine, and Frame are all Steam first and built to work seamlessly with Steam. Every piece of new hardware all run SteamOS, Valve’s operating system optimized for gaming. It’s designed to provide a plug-and-play user experience, while still retaining access to the power and flexibility of a PC. Valve has also announced that they are expanding their Deck Verified program to include ratings for Steam Machine and Steam Frame ahead of launch. Customers will be able to understand how games will run on these new devices.
The Steam Controller is built for Steam, and configurable with Steam input. Steam users can play all their games however they like, on whatevery they like: PC, laptop, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and more.
The Steam Controller features the Controller Pick, a wireless transmitter that provides a fast, stable connection for the Steam Controller. The Steam Controller Puck also acts as a charging station. Players who prefer using bluetooth or USB can do so with the Controller too. The Steam Controller will come with next-generation thumbsticks using TMR technology, designed for improved feel, responsiveness and long-term reliability. The Controller will feature high definition rumble and grip-enabled gryo Valve is calling Steam Sense.
The Steam Controller is built for comfortable extended play, with thumbsticks, buttons, bumpers, and triggers positioned for hands of all sizes. The Controller will also feature trackpads, motion control, grip buttons, the Steam button, and a quick access menu.
The Steam Machine features over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck with the power to play a user’s entire Steam library, including their favorite AAA titles. The Steam Machine features the Steam OS. It’s roughly 6-inches, cool and quiet even while running the most demanding games. It will have 1 Gigabit Ethernet. DisplayPort 1.4. HDMI 2.0. One USB-C and four USB-A ports. The Steam Machine focuses on 4k gaming at 60 FPS with FSR. There will be two sizes to choose from: 512 GB and 2 TB, both of which will come with expandable storage via microSD. The Steam Machine will have 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E, plus Bluetooth 5.3 with a dedicated antenna.
Even though it’s optimized for gaming, the Steam Machine is also a PC. Users can install their own apps, or even another operating system.
The Steam Frame is a streaming first, wireless VR headset + controllers that can handle a user’s whole Steam library. Players can step into immersive VR, or lean back and enjoy their non-VR catalog. The headset is lightweight and compact, with the weight balanced front-to-rear for a comfortable experience.
Valve prioritized making Steam Frame a stable, high-quality streaming experience. With that, Steam Frame will include a plug-and-play 6GHz wireless adapter that provides a dedicated link for both VR and non-VR steaming. The Frame will also have dual radios. One is dedicated to streamingh the audio and visuals while the other connects to WiFi.
Steam Frame introduces foveated streaming, a new feature that optimizes detail where a user’s eyes are looking, offering over a 10x improvement in image quality and effective bandwidth. Behind the scenes, Valve is using low-latency eye tracking data to steer the best quality pixels only to where you’re looking. This is all happening without you noticing, and works for your entire Steam library.
