One of the many exciting announcements at this year’s E3 was for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game. SuperHeroHype reports on the newly released trailer for the game, which is being developed by Insomniac Games, who are known for such games as Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive.
The nearly ten-minute trailer starts off like a trailer for a movie. In it, we see Spider-Man communicating with Captain Yuriko Watanabe through what I imagine is a headset inside of his mask. In the gameplay section, it appears that the player will be given a choice on how to take out The Demons, a mask-wearing gang terrorizing Spidey’s home of New York City. The player can choose a stealthy approach, as seen in the trailer, sneaking up behind enemies and incapacitating them by surprise, or just run in webs blazing. No matter which route you choose, you will have plenty of web-based moves at your disposal, including web bombs (not quite sure how else to describe them), which can be planted and shoot webs at an enemy when they are passed. You will also be able to use pieces of the environment as a part of your arsenal, picking things up with your webs and flinging them at enemies. When fighting groups of enemies, the game takes on an Arkham Asylum-like style of combat, which will allow the player to use Spider-Man‘s Spidey Senses to sometimes fight in slow-motion.
The game is complete with stunning graphics and Spidey’s signature one-liners. In addition to its combat mechanics, the game also looks to use good use of quick time events. Additionally, cutscenes and gameplay seem to be melded coherently to give the impression that the player is actually playing a movie. The game’s working title is Spider-Man PS4 and is slated to be released in 2018. You can watch the full trailer below.
