A teaser trailer revealed a new game called Starship Troopers Terran Command, an indirect successor to the 2000 game Starship Troopers Terran Ascendancy. Both games will be sharing the same universe as the 1997 film Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers Terran Command is under development by the Belgian studio The Artistocracts and will be published by Slitherine Ltd.
The game will be seeing players taking control of the Mobile Infantry as they battle against the Arachnid threat. Slitherine promises that Starship Troopers Terran Command incorporate elements of tower defence games and more traditional RTS games. Going off the trailer, it seems the game will play much like They are Billions. Starship Troopers Terran Command will require smart utilisation of elevated areas and choke points along the map to deal with the large and overwhelming hordes of enemies. As well enemies forces will actively attempt to set up ambushes against the player.
The main storyline is set to take the player all across the planet in attempt to save the human colonies. The storyline is promised to be dynamic and alter itself in response to the player’s choices as well as the AI will adapt to how the player approaches the game.
According to Polygon, the game has been under development for over two years. Iain McNeil, development director at Slitherine commented on what they were aiming for while building the game.
We aimed to capture the essence of the original movie and its universe
Iain continued, “This is not only achieved by creating a coherent set of units and scenarios, but also by mimicking the language, visual elements, dialogues, and the little details that made the film such an iconic, cult feature.”
Starship Troopers Terran Command is posted on Steam and offers more information on the gameplay and screenshots for what to expect in 2020.
