There have been numerous reports of a new Nintendo Switch model. Unlike the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is only portable and does not support playing on the Tv, the new Nintendo Switch model will supposedly be a better version of the original Switch with the ability to be connected to the TV. Now, Bloomberg has reported more concrete details about the new model as well as Nintendo’s plans for release which appears to be later this year.
Unlike flexible OLED that high-end smartphones are using, rigid OLED is cheap and prices have been falling recently due to over-supply. Deal is good for Samsung as it can secure stable buyer. (2/2) pic.twitter.com/Xa0RNmnLgh

Bloomberg reports that the new model will be equipped with a bigger, Samsung OLED display. Talking about what the new screen would do for the Nintendo Switch, Yoshiro Tamura, co-founder of display consultancy DSCC said “the OLED panel will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display.” The new screen would also make this new model the biggest screen for a Nintendo Switch. The Lite’s screen is 5.5-inches and the current Switch is 6.2-inches. The new model’s screen size is 7 inches.
According to the report, mass production of the new OLED 720p resolution panels are set to start as early as June. There is an initial target of just under a million units and they are slated for shipment to assemblers around July.
“The release of a more premium version of Nintendo’s Switch console with an OLED display and support for 4K graphics for the holiday 2021 selling season could drive the company’s sales above consensus for the fiscal year ending March 2022 and extend the life cycle of the Switch platform for many more years,” Matthew Kanterman and Nathan Naidu, analysts at Bloomberg, said.
Last year was a big year for Nintendo. As everyone had to stay home and hunker down, more and more went to video games. This caused Nintendo’s profits to soar over 500 percent, in large part, because of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. At the end of the year, Nintendo stayed on top as the Switch was the best-selling hardware of 2020 despite Sony’s and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles releasing. Plus, Nintendo published 10 of the top 20 best-selling games in the month of December.
