Today, the latest update for Red Dead Online goes live and it brings in a new Frontier Pursuits role, The Naturalist. Alongside the new role comes new characters to work with as players hunt, track, and study animals throughout the five states of the game. Legendary Animals are also being added to Red Dead Online as well as new Role-specific missions, items, and skills. With this new update, The Outlaw Pass No. 3 brings new items and rewards for players to go after.
As with every Frontier Pursuit focusing on a specific task, The Naturalist role is wildlife-focused where players will explore diverse locales and encounter Legendary Animals. Visting the Welcome center in Strawberry, players will come across two characters associated with The Naturalist role, Harriet Davenport and Gus Macmillan. Harriet is looking for adventurers to help track down specimens and further her extensive knowledge of the animals of the five states and will reward players for these samples such as the new sedative varmint cartridges that can be used to sedate and sample animals without having to kill them. Gus is a retired big game hunter who will reward players with a wide range of options such as fine clothing made from what you deliver like high-quality garments with special benefits and animal trinkets to has certain advantages.
Continuing in the Naturalist role will unlock new items, skills and gameplay. Things such as a new Naturalist breed of horses, bespoke clothing and accessories, and new tonic and tonic recipes will be available to earn. These include personal weight loss and weight gain tonics, animal revivers, and special tonics that manipulate weather effects or increase your ability to sneak up on animals. New skills that can be learned include mercy kills and the ability to pitch wilderness camps. Players can also work with Harriet Davenport in they choose to and push back against animal poachers by raiding their encampments and liberating caged animals.
Legendary Animals can be found throughout the world in free roam and through animal sighting assignments from Harriet. Legendary Animals include cougars, foxes, boars, beavers, wolves, bison, and elk. More will be added to the game in the coming weeks.
With the emphasis on the wildlife and the new role, a new advanced camera has been added to the game which allows for increased mobility. New weapons like the customizable Improved Bow and the Elephant Rifle will make taking down animals easier.
In Addition, two new free roam events have been added to the game. In Legendary Animal Protection, you’ll be defending a Legendary Animal from poachers as it makes its way across the Frontier. Getting to close to it though can lead to you being seen as a threat. In Wild Animal Tagging, you can join up with other players to sedate and tag animals to obtain samples and discover a bonus Legendary Animal. You’ll also have to deal with poachers as well.
The Outlaw Pass No. 3 comes with up to 40 Gold Bars and lots of offers and rewards like access to unique outfits, weapon modifications, camp upgrades, and more. Additional updates to the game include new people that you can interact within free roam like hunters tracking prey that may ask for help. There are also crashed wagons that may have abandoned valuables or someone looking for help too. With the new Naturalist role, new themed and general daily challenges have been added as well as new awards, clothing, hairstyles, hair accessories, and emotes. Players can also now store cooked meats in the weapon wheel and a Weapons Locker has been added to the Single-Player mode so Arthur can remove weapons from the weapon wheel.
With the new update also comes new benefits, offers, and rewards. Now through August 3, players going into the Naturalist role will earn 2x payouts on Tier 3 Legendary Animal samples and Whole Carcass sales. Completing various Naturalist goals over the next four weeks will also grant additional benefits as well. Become a Naturalist and get a Reward for a free Role Accessory, Outfit or Emote. Sedate and sample any animal and get the Gila Monster Camp Flag. Complete a Legendary Animal Sighting Mission and get a Reward for a unique colorway of the Farnholme Double Bandolier. Pitch a Wilderness Camp and get a Reward for a Treasure Map. New bonus offers include 30% off any Novice or Promising item in the Naturalist role, reward for 2,000 Naturalist XP, reward for free sedative varmint cartridges, reward for a free Legendary Animal pheromone, 30% off a revolver, and a reward for a free ability card.
PlayStation 4 players will get special free gifts and early access bonuses. Free gifts include 10x sedative varmint cartridges, 5x animal revivers, and 5x blending tonics. Early Access bonuses include the legendary gabbro horn ram, three fossil collection set, Legendary Chalk Horn Ram, the Woodcote poncho, and 5x blending tonics.
