New Pokémon Sword and Shield Trailer Shows Off New Pokémon, an Evil Team and Regional Variants

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Pokémon games, Pokémon Sword and Shield. The trailer included an incredible reveal for some new forms, as well as several new mechanics, a new rival, and the heinous team that will assault the player throughout the game.

The trailer revealed that just like in Pokémon Sun and Moon the Galar Region will have their own regional variants. The trailer unveiled Galarian Zigzagoon, Normal/Dark type and its evolution Galarian Linoone. It also revealed that Zigzagoon is finally getting a third evolution, Obstagoon. There will also be Galarian variant for the Pokémon Weezing. A new Pokémon also got its debut, Morpeko. Morpeko is an Electric/Dark type with the ability Hunger Switch, which allows it to change into its Hangry Mode, which changes its form as well as the typing of certain moves. Any Electric type moves will become Dark type moves in Hangry Mode.

The trailer also unveiled the new evil team, the heinous Team Yell. Team Yell is a group of followers that seek to assist their idol Marnie in becoming the Pokémon Champion using any means they deem necessary including distracting trainers, occupying buildings, and keeping challengers from using transportation. The team’s design appears to be heavily inspired by Punk Rock as can be seen in the trailer. It also showed off a new character, Bede, who is one of the player’s rivals. Little is known about him at the moment, but his character description seems to imply that he has some other desire besides becoming the Pokémon Champion.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Pokémon series or are just getting back into it, Pokémon Sword and Shield are the newest Pokémon games in the main series as well as the first main series games for the Nintendo Switch. Previous trailers have revealed various mechanics such as Dynamaxing, which increases Pokémon‘s size as well as granting it a sizeable stat boost and a new moveset, and Gigantamaxing which changes certain Pokémon‘s forms as well as granting them an increase in size and a new moveset including a special move.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will be available for the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019. If one purchases the double pack, it will include two codes that will allow players to obtain Dynamax Crystals for Jangmo-o in Pokémon Sword, and Larvitar in Pokémon Shield.
