Over the weekend, The Pokémon Company hosted a nature cam-style 24-hour research livestream of the Glimwood Tangle, a forest area in the Galar region from the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield. Much like real-life animal cams, the livestream was mostly uneventful, with only a few Pokémon popping out from the forest over the entire stream. Along with some familiar faces, a new Pokémon made an appearance.
The new Pokémon bears a striking resemblance to Ponyta, making many theorize that it’s a Galarian form of Pokémon. Ponyta’s cry could be heard in the stream as well, adding to the theory. The Ponyta-like monster is a small white horse with a unicorn horn and a big, fluffy mane that looks like a cloud. Two of them appeared on the stream, with their cloud manes lighting up bright purple.
The stream didn’t reveal any information about the Pokémon’s name or Type, but it’s expected that an official confirmation should come in the near future, as Professor Magnolia’s assistant and granddaughter, budding researcher Sonia, said she’d create a report about the stream soon.
Aside from the new Pokémon, other Pokémon that appeared in the stream included Pikachu, Morelull, Phantump, and Impidimp, a Galarian Pokémon who made its first appearance in the Sword and Shield demo at E3 2019. Other than that, the stream largely consisted of forest sounds like rustling bushes.
If confirmed to be Galarian Ponyta, this new Pokémon will join the ranks of the other confirmed Galarian variants so far, which include the Zigzagoon line, Weezing, and new Galar-exclusive evolutions for Linoone and Farfetch’d.
Though not every Pokémon species from past games will be able to appear in Sword and Shield, Game Freak director Junichi Masuda recently confirmed that Pokémon who don’t make the cut for Sword and Shield will appear in future games. Game Freak also recently shared more details about the games with Game Informer, including new features like autosave and eliminating HMs.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will launch on the Nintendo Switch on November 15.
