New PlayStation 4K To Be Announced Before PlayStation VR’s Launch

A week ago we reported that Sony could be developing a new, more powerful PS4, nicknamed the “PS4.5”. Later in the week Eurogamer confirmed the existence of the new system, called the PlayStation 4K, and gave some ideas as to what we could expect from the console. The story of the new PS4 continues with new report from the Wall Street Journal saying that we could get an official announcement from Sony before the release of Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR.

Polygon reports that Wall Street Journal sources close to the matter say that the upgraded hardware will be able to play 4K resolution content, and that extra power is needed to make the most of the PS VR.

According to the WSJ article the new PS4 will provide “a richer gaming environment, including a high-end virtual-reality experience.”

In GameInformer’s report, it was said that the PS4K and the original PS4 would share the same game catalog. Along with that, if/when the PS4K is released Sony won’t stop production on the PS4.

No pricing info or trade-in policy for the PlayStation 4K have been announced, but Sony is apparently targeting consumers willing to pay for high-end experience.

The PlayStation VR is set to release sometime in October, if this report is true, we can expect an official announcement sometime around then.
