New Persona 5 Trailer has New Characters and Japan Release Date

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Persona 5, the first HD entry into the mainline Persona series.  Well those who live in Japan will be happy to know that the game will release for PS4 and PS3 on September 15th.  No word yet on a western release yet, but we do have a new trailer that gives us a look at new allies and enemies from the game.

We’ve been introduced to four characters in the cast, the Protagonist, Ryuji, Ann, and Morgana (the cat).  The orange haired girl in the glasses is confirmed to be Futaba Sakura, hacker who plays the role of the dungeon navigator.  There is also Yusuke Kitagawa, the blue-haired boy in the white shirt who bears a resemblance to Persona 3’s protagonist.  The trailer also showed a dark haired girl, a girl in a pink scarf, and a brown-haired male student.  It looks like Persona 5 will have about 7 to 8 party members to choose from like Persona 4.

The trailer also gives us a better look at the bosses and overall style of the game.  Boss fights will still be creations born from people’s malicious side, and the design blends everything from Egyptian art to modern superhero movies.  The Persona games have always been about mixing the mundane with the supernatural, a trend that is apparent in Persona 5.

Persona 5 looks like it will take everything from Persona 4 and super-size it.  The trailer shows our protagonists flying to different locations, dungeons that seem to have some platforming elements, and new combination attacks.  Much like with Persona 4, Atlus is releasing Persona 5 during the end of the last generation’s lifespan.  Persona 4 released during the beginning of the PS3 and end of the PS2, and it’s one of the most memorable and cherished RPGs today, hopefully the same happens for Persona 5.
