New Overwatch Uprising Event Starts Today

“Uprising”, the newest Overwatch seasonal event, is now officially live, having launched earlier today.  The event lasts from now until May 1, and lets players travel back in time to pivotal point in the Overwatch lore: the Omnic uprising of King’s Row.  This mission was a major event for the then-young Overwatch team, as well as the very first mission of fan-favorite character Tracer, in which the team went up against seemingly insurmountable odds as they fought the Omnic extremist group “Null Sector” for control of the city.  You can read more on the story in the digital comic about the battle released by Blizzard last week, or check out the backstory trailer below:

The main event of Uprising is the new cooperative game mode, aptly titled “Uprising”, in which teams of 4 players travel back in time to fight alongside one another against wave after wave of advancing Null Sector omnics.  The PvE game mode will come in two flavors: the “lore-friendly” version in which players are limited to selecting from Tracer, Reinhardt, Mercy or Torbjörn (the teammates who were actually there), and another version where players can select from any member of the full 24-character Overwatch roster.  Check out some brief snippets of gameplay in the trailer below:

The event also adds over 100 new Overwatch loot box items, adding new skins, highlight intros, emotes, and more.  Many of the new items fit the event’s theme of throwback and nostalgia for the “old days” of Overwatch, including many of the characters old uniforms and loadouts.

If you still haven’t gotten your fill of all the new Overwatch goodness just yet, Blizzard also released a new Developer Update accompanying the event’s release, which you can see below:
