Today, New Wave Toys, makers of licensed and recreated classic and culturally significant memorabilia such as arcade games to retro electronics, books, curios, and collectibles have announced the next addition to the RepliCade Amusements. These are a collection of fully playable, arcade-art masterpieces. The premium collectibles share all the features of the vintage, full-sized cabinet, but they are recreated in 12-inch Playscale. The next one coming in Q1 2022 is the Missile Command X RepliCade. There are three options available to choose from with new features added to this new cabinet. The presell for the Missile Command X RepliCade ends November 5, 2021, at 6 pm PT.
Missile Command is a 1980 shoot ’em up arcade game developed and designed by Dave Theurer who also created the vector graphics game, Tempest. Players use a trackball to defend six cities from intercontinental ballistic missiles by launching anti-ballistic missiles from three bases. Talking about the inspiration for Missle Command, Dave Theurer said “That was the whole point of the game… to show that if there was ever a nuclear war, you’d never win.”
The three available options to choose from are the base Missile Command X RepliCade which costs $139.99. The Missile Command X RepliCade Field-Test Edition costs $169.99. You could also get 1 of each and get the base version and the Field-Test Edition for $279.99.
Both cabinets will feature the exclusive TRAK-BALL XL that provides fast and accurate control as well as the new CRT-FX, a convex, transparent lens filter that transforms the LCD screen to look like a CRT television. The Field Test Edition includes special features like a Field-Test sloped control panel, a Field-Test light-up marquee panel, and an Atari triple slot metal coin door. Those who preorder during the presale period can also receive a free Missile Command mini arcade poster while supplies last.
After the presell event ends, the base version will cost $149.99 and the Field-Test Edition will cost $159.99.
