The PC is one of the best systems for all of those funkier RPGs, such as Prison Architect. One that is set to come out later this year is called Kingsway and it is a literal PC RPG. Literally, it’s an RPG in the shape of a PC. The game was made by Andrew Morrish for PC through Adult Swim games.
The monsters you fight are pop-ups, probably some are x-rated pop-ups as well. Your quests are through email and all of you inventory is in a cluttered file folder.
Kingsway is a role-playing adventure that takes the form of the Kingsway Operating System, which is basically a combination of Windows and MacOS turned into a monster-slayer set. You travel the map through the World Navigator menu, which basically sounds like an internet browser. You slay monsters as the pop-up on the screen. If you’re bored, you can take a break from the action and just drag-and-drop different windows for a bit of silly side quest action.
In the game, you need to customize the desktop in a way that will best help you save the world. An example cited by Kotaku says:
Saving the world from a hideous monster that threatens to blot out the sun is just one of the benefits of being a well-organized worker.
The trailer is pretty cool too. It starts out with a robotic female voice working as essentially an audible startup wizard. She welcomes you to the Kingsway Operating System. According to her, The Kingsway Operating System is the best tool you can use for skeleton smashing and loot organizing. If you have enough time, you can have a peaceful stroll through the Underworld. The ending of the trailer is great: It’s a lot of boxes popping up on the desktop saying you died. You can watch the full trailer below.
The game is set to come out later in the year. The price and timetable is unknown.
