Almost two weeks ago, rumors were flying around the internet that Colorado-based developer Deck Nine Games was working on a new game in the Life is Strange franchise. At the time, Deck Nine simply stated that they were working on a narrative-driven game and that more information would be revealed at E3. Well, last night (June 11), during Microsoft’s E3 presentation, it was confirmed that Deck Nine is in fact working on a new Life is Strange game.
The new game is called Life is Strange: Before the Storm and, just as many had suspected a couple of weeks ago, the game will act as a prequel to the original Life is Strange with Chloe being the protagonist. In a press release, Square Enix, the game’s publisher, states that Before the Storm will take place three years before the events of Life is Strange and the story will focus largely on Chloe’s friendship with Rachel Amber, the popular girl who mysteriously disappeared before the events of Life is Strange.
It was also confirmed in a post on the official Life is Strange blog that Deck Nine’s Before the Storm is separate from the new Life is Strange game being worked on by the original Life is Strange developer, DONTNOD. So in addition to Before the Storm, there will be yet another Life is Strange game in the hopefully not-too-distant future.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm will be an episodic series with three episodes, the first of which will be available on August 31. There will also be a bonus “Farewell” episode that will see the player playing as Max once again. Before the Storm will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
