New Hack-and-Slash, For Honor, Coming Early 2017

Hack-and-Slash games have been a very popular genre as of the last few generations. The most popular that come to mind are the God of War series and the Dark Souls series. A new hack-and-slash game that’s being released in early 2017 may be the next series that will be flying off the shelves: For Honor.

There are different kinds of hack-and-slash games. One kind is the ones where you take out hordes of enemies and the other is those that bring you up close to your enemy for battle. For Honor is similar to Dark Souls because of its use of spells as well as key hack-and-slash weapons like blades and swords. Alexa Ray Correia of Gamespot writes about her experience from playing the demo version and what sets it apart from other hack-and-slash games:

For Honor grabbed me because it doesn’t feel like your typical hack-and-slash game, especially when you’re playing cooperatively in a team of four. You’ll be hacking and slashing, but to do so with simple button-mashing is absolute folly. Broadly, For Honor requires you to do two things: know your battleground and know your enemy. Understanding your enemy includes observing the opposing team’s wider movements and strategies, carefully marking who goes where, who is playing the heavy class and who is the easy target. Then, when your weapons are locked and your foe is so close you can see their eyes glinting through the slits in their helmet, For Honor takes on a surprising level of intimacy.

For Honor allows you to choose between 12 characters among three factions: the Knights, the Vikings and the Samurai. Each character has their own signature weapon, battle style and back story that will give the game plenty of replay value, especially for those gamers that want to play as all of the characters.  These characters also have their own level of expertise: the Vanguard class is the best overall class with heaviest characters, the assassin class is light on their feet and great for one-on-one battles and the Hybrid class has a myriad of attacks allowing for a more technical play through.

To save the player from playing the game 12 different times so all 12 characters can be played, the online multiplayer is 4-on-4 battling giving the player easy access to the different characters.

Players who enjoy playing as female characters will also enjoy the player selection, as each faction has four characters. One is male, one is female, and two can be played as both male and female.

For Honor is set to be released on February 14 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
