A new God of War maybe in development according to job postings by Santa Monica Studios.
This comes from Twitter users, NextGenPlayer and Mrpyro1, with the former posting the job listings from Santa Monica Studios and the ladder linking GamingBible article on the subject. According to the job listing, Santa Monica Studios is looking to hire a Combat Designer with “knowlegde in both God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök combat system, mechanics, and enemies.”
Some of the other requirements include 2+ years of game development experience, basic vector math and coding experience, and script based language to set up character logic. Some responsibilites include creating character designs and animation, combat flow plans, and character behavior systems.
Along with the listing above, Santa Monica Studios is looking to hire a Senior Combat Designer and Combat Designer For Companions. Both of these positions are fairly similar to the Combat Designer listing, with the only difference is the experience required.
Although, not solid evidence of a new God of War, the name does get dropped in the job description and requires the new hire to know both God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök’s combat systems, so one can assume a new entry is in the works. Like what GamingBible says in their article, “it’s only natural to assume it’s for a new God Of War game, as why would you need to know about the previous games’ combat systems if you’re making something entirely different.”
Currently, Santa Monica Studios has yet to confirm anything, and we likely won’t see anything from this new project for at least another year. The last God of War entry was God of War: Ragnarök which released back in 2022, and proceded to win multiple awards at The Game Awards 2022, which included best narrative, Best Score and Music, and the award for Best Performance.
