The upcoming game from developer JoyMasher and publisher The Arcade Crew, Blazing Chrome, has some new gameplay footage. The gameplay, which you can check out below, shows a little over 2 minutes of level four and was posted yesterday on JoyMasher’s YouTube page. Blazing Chrome looks insanely fun, albeit difficult, and is already being compared to Metal Slug and Contra, some even going as far as to say that it’s the spiritual successor to the two classic games.
The game’s story revolves around a machine-controlled world. A small group of (mostly) human resistance fighters attempt a suicide mission to destroy their metallic overlord’s AI powerplant. The game will allow players to choose between one of two characters, “Mavra, a super badass human resistance soldier, or Doyle, the equally groovy and deadly insurgent robot.” The game also boasts the use of “hoverbikes, huge armors and a whole arsenal of kick-ass weapons,” as well as a host of both crazy boss battles and a ton of mini-boss fights too, bringing fans of the genre right back to the video arcade. The game will feature local couch co-op, well designed 16-bit art style, and a killer soundtrack to boot.
The footage shows a few of the different weapon types, which you can swap back and forth between at will once obtained. Other than the basic continuous fire, the clip shows a rocket launcher, what appears to be a homing energy whip, and a chargeable energy beam. Since the clip is so short, it’ll interesting to see how many more weapon options will be available during a full playthrough. While fans of the run-and-gun shooters of the ’90s are ready and rearing to get a hold of the game, the wait time is still up in the air. The game’s release, according to the Steam page, is set for “early 2019.”
