The new game development company That’s No Moon has risen from the stardust of its predecessors. That’s No Moon, a newly founded AAA game development company, was founded by several of the industry’s top creators. With all eyes on this up-and-coming game studio, there’s a lot for fans to take in.

That’s No Moon, founded earlier this year, is the brainchild of some of the most notable names in the game development industry. Michael Mumbauer, who previously headed PlayStation’s Visual Arts Group, is the CEO of That’s No Moon, and Tina Kowalewski, the former head of product development at Sony Santa Monica, is Chief Strategy Officer. Working alongside their fellow co-founders are Taylor Kurosaki and Jacob Minkoff, who will work as creative director and game director respectively. The duo comes from Infinity Ward and Naughty Dog and worked on projects such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and The Last of Us. And, as if this list of credits isn’t impressive enough, That’s No Moon’s wider development team consists of employees that have worked on projects such as God of War, The Last of Us Part II, Destiny, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and more.
And the cherry on top: That’s No Moon has received a massive endorsement from the South Korean game development company Smilegate. Smilegate, the company that produced the popular shooter game Crossfire, has teamed up in a partnership with That’s No Moon and invested $100 million in the new company.
“Our shared vision is to craft captivating stories and relatable, emotionally resonant characters that are not only entertaining, but thought-provoking. We want to make experiences that will stick with you for long after you put down the controller.”
While That’s No Moon has yet to reveal an official project, they sure do know how to say just enough to get fans on the edge of their seat. As Mark Mumbauer explained in today’s announcement, their first big project will be, “…an ambitious AAA singleplayer third-person action-adventure game.” That’s No Moon also seems to place an emphasis on video games as a form of entertainment similar to cinema, so perhaps a movie-like experience for gamers isn’t far away.
“…[That’s No Moon] rests at the intersections of games, film, and TV…”
Unfortunately, that is all fans know for now, but with a company as prestigious as this, fans will definitely be keeping their eyes on this project. So if you have high hopes for That’s No Moon, make sure to stay tuned for more updates about the new AAA company, and check out their website for more information.
