New Features Coming to Shovel Knight, New Game Shovel Knight Dig Announced

Earlier today, Yacht Club Games held Yacht Club Game Presents, 12 minute presentation, which covered tons of new Shovel Knight news.Yacht Club debuted new trailers for both the upcoming King of Cards and Showdown DLCs, new features coming to all the games, as well as announcing a brand new spinoff called Shovel Knight Dig.

Shovel Knight Dig is a brand new game from Yacht Club Games that is being developed in conjunction with the studio, and the developers of Bomb Chicken, Nitrome. According to the Yacht Club, the game has been in development for over a year already, but development has “quite a ways to go still.”

The game will follow the titular Shovel Knight as he is on the pursuit of Drill Knight after the latter and his crew “blast apart Shovel Knight’s peaceful campsite and steal his loot.” Unlike other entries in the series, this game is the first to be rendered with “glorious high color pixel graphics and sound.” Shovel Knight Dig also features “meticulously crafted” levels that were then combined via “proprietary generation techniques” that will provide players with  new ways to play each time they start.

Along with the announcement of Shovel Knight Dig, plenty of new features and details were announced during the presentation. A three pack of Amiibo was announced featuring the characters Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight. These Amiibo will unlock the Boomtech Plague Knight, Lich Lord Specter Knight, and Ultimate Supreme King Knight respectively on all three Nintendo consoles the games are available on. They will also unlock a fairy that will accompany and help players throughout the games.

The Shovel of Hope campaign, the original story, will now include a new character pronoun option, they/them, for players to use in game. The Plague of Shadows campaign will now feature a quick select for players’ Alchemy options. Also, five new challenges are being added to the challenge mode of Specter of Torment. Finally, it was announced that all games in the Shovel Knight series will have their language options increased to 12 with the addition of Korean and Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Yacht Club also announced that they’d be bringing Shovel Knight Dig, King of Cards, and Showdown to PAX West in Seattle for attendees to get their hands on. As such, excited fans and attendees of PAX West only have a few days to wait to experience these new Shovel Knight adventures.

Avid believer that video games present the best storytelling opportunities out of any media, and that needs to be conveyed. Former competitive Pokemon player. Attended university to study game development. Wouldn't be who I am today without games.
