Far Cry will be getting a new installment later down the line, as the next installment within the franchise is said to be in the development stage over at Ubisoft. According to Insider Gaming, the newest installment has become more than just a working concept, and has actually entered development at Vantage Studios.
In Insider Gaming’s report, the current codename for the Far Cry game currently development is “Kodiak”, and is being developed after the earlier development and cancellation of another Far Cry game, codenamed “Maverick”. Maverick was rumored to be an extraction shooter, but was cancelled for unknown reasons as of now.
The upcoming Far Cry game in development will reportedly follow the familiar open-world FPS that the franchise is known for. Insider Gaming also mentions that the next installment will also be “really ambitious” and that “player interactions and player-driven stories take center stage.” While these details are small, they provide a type of description that sounds like a story-heavy game that will develop and change with the player’s decisions.
This news is big for the fans of the Far Cry series. The latest installment of the franchise was all the way in 2021 with the release of Far Cry 6. It’s been half a decade since the last Far Cry game, and it may be another year or two before gamers as a whole hear anything about Kodiak.
Far Cry as a series has had its ups and downs, which is expected for a franchise that’s had around a dozen games in its series. Regardless of that, the games of the Far Cry series are known for high-action gameplay and notorious villains, and it seems the upcoming installment will be following that formula. While nothing else is known about Kodiak at the moment, the developers at Vantage Studios have the future of the Far Cry series in their hands, a big name under Ubisoft’s belt. But, with the recent success of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft seems to trust them with the task of making the next installment of Far Cry a good one.
