According to sources, a new Fable game is now in the early stages of development by Playground Games, the studio behind Forza Horizon. The company has stated in the past that they were indeed working on a non-racing open-world title that has been going under the name “Project 2”, but there is still no concrete evidence on what this new project might be. However, according to a new report, sources say that the game is currently being developed at Playgrounds newly-opened second studio and that this new title will be a “story and character-focused open-world action RPG.”
Attempts have been made to see if Microsoft themselves would have anything to say on the matter, but a representative from the company stated that they would “not comment on rumor or speculation.” In response to the rumors, Simon Carter, one of the game’s co-creators, said while speaking to Eurogamer that he does have “slightly mixed feelings.”
“On the one hand it’s great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn’t dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter without coming out in hives. On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job.”
