Among a smattering of sequels and previews, the arguable bombshell of Playstation’s State of Play yesterday was the announced new DLC for FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign. Lovers of the co-op roguelike can rejoice, as The Forsaken Hollows, as the DLC has been dubbed, will release in a matter of weeks on December 4th. Owners of the premium editions of the game will get access to the DLC automatically at no extra cost at its release, but it will retail for $15 for everyone else. Along with a description of what’s new on publisher Bandai Namco’s website, the State of Play reveal also included an visually spectacular official trailer showcasing the upcoming Nightreign expansion. And if you’re curious about what else was featured during the State of Play event, check out our article covering it here.Elden Ring: Nightreign released on May 29th to generally favorable reviews from critics and fans alike, and has consistently put out new content updates like the challenging Everdark Sovereign boss variants to keep players occupied past beating the eight main bosses of the game. This new DLC, however, will be the first piece of major paid content for Nightreign, and looks to up the ante of what is already a killer formula; run-based, cooperative, soulslike action, and promises to add plenty more for players to team up against. According to Bandai Namco, The Forsaken Hollows will include two new Nightfarers, a Shifting Earth condition, new Nightlords and other fearsome big bads called “Abominations” that are apparently different from them. And that’s not all, as there are also additional larger foes from previous FromSoftware titles–like in the trailer what looks to be Knight Artorias from the first Dark Souls–that are joining the fray as the confirmed set of new Field and Night bosses. Indeed, if the current cast of enemies in Nightreign wasn’t hard enough for you, masochists fret not, as there’s even more stuff here to prepare to die trying to kill.
Luckily, the two new Nightfarers–Nightreign’s player character classes–Scholar and Undertaker look like they’re going to be strong picks in your party. From their description on the DLC’s webpage, both Nightfarers seem to be Faith based builds, with Undertaker leaning more towards Strength. And I have no doubt that both will be capable of putting in some serious hurt on the Nightlords. Additionally, the new Shifting Earth condition looks like a gorgeous tribute to the magical Carian Lakes region in Elden Ring, and regardless if the map is rotated off of it, Bandai Namco also says that there will be new randomly placed points of interest to seek out on any run of the game. There’s a lot to be excited about for Nightreign fans and co-op lovers alike, and only a few more weeks to wait for all of it, so just stay out of the Night’s Tide in the meantime.
